ICC WTC Final: Winner of WTC Final to get a whopping $1.6 Million, Runner-up $800,000.

ICC WTC Final: The Global Cricket Body (ICC) on Monday announced the massive prize pool at stake for the marquee ICC World Test Championship final. The winner between India and New Zealand will fetch a handsome sum along with the Test Championship Mace and a title of World Test Champions.

The final of the World Test Championship is slated to begin on June 18th at Rose Bowl, Southampton.

The winner will fetch a whopping $1.6 Millions (approx. INR 11.72 Crores) while the runner-up will get $800,000 (approx. INR 5.86 Crores).

“The winners of the much-awaited ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and New Zealand will take home a purse of $ 1.6 million along with the ICC Test Championship Mace.

“The losing team will get $ 800,000 for finishing second in the nine-team competition, which was played over a near two-year cycle, adding context to Test cricket and to crown the first official world champions in the longest format of the game,” ICC said in an official release.

ICC has also decided to reward other participating teams. As per the press release, the third-placed team will get $450,000 while the fourth and fifth will bag $350,000 and $200,000 respectively.

“The prize money for the team finishing third in the ICC World Test Championship Standings Powered by MRF Tyres is $ 450,000. The team fourth on the table will be awarded $ 350,000, the one that finishes fifth gets $ 200,000 while the remaining four teams will get $ 100,000 each.

The Test Mace, which is the highest honour in Test cricket, was earlier given to the teams topping the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings while it will now be awarded to the winner of the World Test Championship.

The ICC also stated if the championship ends in a draw, then the prize pool of first and second winners will be equally distributed. Both India and New Zealand will get $1.2 Million (approx. 8.87 Crores) each in case the match ends in a draw or tie.

“The Test Mace, previously given to teams topping the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings will now be given to the WTC winners. In case the final ends in a draw or a tie, the finalists will split the prize money for the first and second places and share possession of the Mace during the time they remain champions,” the ICC statement further added.
