Stats of India’s intrasquad test match ahead of the ICC World Test Championship Final.
Team India and management had earlier decided to undergo a test match simulation in order to get into the groove ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final. The simulation began on June 11, exactly a week before the WTC Final.
Indian regular skipper Virat Kohli led one side while KL Rahul was made captain of the other. The management could have gone with Rohit Sharma or Ajinkya Rahane for leading the second team, however, it was Rahul who made it there.
The exact squads and scorecards are not available as of now. All the stats shown here are either from the BCCI tweets or from the official genuine sources.
As per the BCCI tweets, on the second day, Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, Pacer Ishant Sharma and batsman Shubman Gill remind the top contributors.
Pant, who is raring to go in the WTC Final, smacked an unbeaten century (121* to be precise) in just 94 deliveries. The pacer Ishant Sharma was amongst the wickets with three scalps while Shubman Gill scored 85 runs off 135 deliveries.
Going ahead with another day on the Intrasquad test match simulations, Ravindra Jadeja showed encouraging signs as he plundered unbeaten 54 off 76 balls batting in Ageas Bowl.
The report also suggested that the young pacer Mohammad Siraj, who is likely to get a place in the final playing11, clipped off two wickets in 22 runs.
The small video clips posted by BCCI showed how India is preparing hard for the clash. The video features all senior Indian cricketers sweating out and taking on the challenging weather of England.
The report of Sports Tak confirmed a couple of more stats. It stated KL Rahul (skipper of the second team) scored a century while senior opener Rohit Sharma amassed in excess of 80 runs in the simulations.
Various news outlets also confirmed that senior batsman Rohit Sharma and Cheteswar Pujara batted for both teams.
Cheteshwar Pujara admitted that adapting to the fickle weather of England is a bit of a challenging task for the Indians. He further said New Zealand will have a slight advantage advancing to the final.
“They (New Zealand) will obviously have an advantage having played two Test matches before the final but when it comes to the final we will give our best and we know that our team has the potential to do well and win the championship,” Pujara told bcci.tv, according to news agency PTI.
“So we are not worried about that, we will try and focus on these 10 to 12 days which we have for preparation. We are also going to play a practice game and we will try and make the most of what we have. If we utilise these days well, I feel that our team will be up for the final,” Pujara said.
