ICC T20 World Cup: Rahul Dravid hints at young players who will find place in T20 World Cup 2021 squad.

ICC T20 World Cup: National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief Rahul Dravid, before his pre-departure virtual conference, hinted at a couple of young players who might cement their place in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 squad.

A second-string Indian team is touring island nation, Sri Lanka, for three games ODI and as many games T20I series.

In the absence of senior players, who are currently touring England for the India-England five games Test series, southpaw Shikhar Dhawan has been handed over the captaincy reins, also Rahul Dravid will be the head coach of the team in absence of Ravi Shastri.

The Indian selectors have picked as many as six uncapped players for the tour to test their performances and see if they can fit the slot in the T20 World Cup squad.

The likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad, K Gowtham, Varun Chakravarthy and Chetan Sakariya are the ones who are picked for their maiden international series.

Dravid during the pre-departure video conference Rahul Dravid said that in such a short tour it is not possible to give every young player a chance to showcase their skills, however, a couple of players will be given a match time.

The tour will begin on 13 July with a three match ODI series followed by the T20Is.

“…I think it’s probably going to be unrealistic to expect us in a short tour like this with three games, or three one-dayers to give everyone an opportunity…and the selectors will be there as well,” Dravid also declared in the pre-departure press conference.

Among all the cricketers who will be showcasing their skills to get a place in the T20 World Cup 2021 Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan will be the most probable ones.

The capped trio have shown their abilities in the past but need one final knock to cement their places.

The selectors will also tour Sri Lanka and will keep their watchful eye on the players and their performances.

The former skipper said that it is an exciting challenge to be a head coach of a senior outfit of India and will be a great learning experience for him.

He further said that the main objective of the tour is to win the series and other things are secondary. The selection of the players is in the hands of selectors and management.
