Is Rahul Dravid Going To Take Up A Coaching Role For Senior Indian Men’s In A Long Term Basis?

Is Rahul Dravid going to take up a coaching role for senior Indian men’s in a long term basis?

The Indian twitter and cricket community has been on the same page to demand BCCI to replace Ravi Shastri and appoint former Indian legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid as the full-time Indian coach.

The discussions sparked after India sealed up the ODI series against Sri Lanka last night and Rahul Dravid’s trick to send Deepak Chahar ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar worked for India.

Deepak Chahar showed an all-rounder performance and snatched the win from the jaws of defeat to stamp the ODI series in the island nation.

The discussions get heated up looking back at the past couple of years where India efficiently managed to reach the knockout of the ICC events and failed in the all-important match.

India lost to New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup and bowed down against the same team in the recent final of the ICC World Test Championship final 2021.

Rahul Dravid has always been under the limelight for his exceptional values and coaching style. First by nurturing the young talents of India at the U19 level and now by coaching the B-string Indian team in Sri Lanka.

However, Dravid has always been reluctant to take up the coaching role contracts as it would require him to be away from his family for a long time.

BCCI, in the past, has offered him the roles, but he has always rejected them.

Renowned cricketer Aakash Chopra in his recent youtube video discussed the same and said:

“I don’t think Rahul Dravid is going to put his name on the list. There can be just one competition if Rahul says he wants to be India’s coach. If he wants, then it will be a strong fight.”

Chopra feels that Ravi Shastri will continue to be the head coach as Dravid is unlikely to put his name for the role.

He further opined that no other name will be near Ravi Shastri if Dravid pulls out. It will be just a cakewalk for him.

The BCCI renews Shastri’s coaching contact after the 2019 ODI World Cup and his contracts will be expired once again after the completion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

“But if Dravid doesn’t put his name, whoever puts his name on that list, he will not be able to stand in front of Ravi Shastri, that is what I believe but then we shall find out.”

Chopra reckons that the selection process for the coach will just be a formality and Shastri will once again lead.

“I don’t think there is going to be any change. I feel Ravi Shastri will continue. Just because there is a process, applications will be invited, there will be some recce. I don’t see a change in the offing, to be very honest.”

Furthermore, he reasoned that with a couple of more World Cups approaching in the next two years and India have done alright under Ravi Shastri.

“There is another T20 World Cup within a year of this T20 World Cup and there is a 50-50 World Cup a year after that. You have reached the World Test Championship final and the team is doing alright, then why change.”
